3 Ways to Improve Your Site's Effectiveness
1. Put your affiliate links or banners in obvious places on your pages. "Above the fold" is a term from the old newspaper publishing days, but it applies to publishing on the Web too. Try to place your affiliate links "above the fold" on your site -- that is, near the top of your page, where your visitors will immediately see it (i.e. they do not need to scroll down the page to see it). Also, place your affiliate links on more than one page of your site -- just to be sure that all of your visitors will see it.
2. Experiment with different banners (different sizes as well as designs) and links (linked text -- i.e. "Sympathy Gifts", "Bereavement Gifts", "Get Well Gifts", etc.) on your pages. Eventually, you will discover the best performing recipe for your site.
3. Include your affiliate links and banners on your other related sites, or even your friends' websites. If you run more than one website or blog, and its content &/or audience are a good fit for Sympathy Solutions (i.e. you write a grief support blog, as well as a terminal illness website), then be sure to include your affiliate banners and links on both sites. You can also ask your friends to post and share your affiliate links with their friends, and so on.
Perhaps the simplest way to improve the performance of affiliate program banners and links is to add brief descriptions of what your visitors will find on the other end. Advertising has become so common on the Internet that many web surfers completely ignore it. If you simply display a banner/link, visitors likely will not feel compelled to click on it. However, describing a specific product can be a simple and effective way to increase the link's performance.
